August Snacktivities Classes
Summer 2022

Our August Snacktivities Classes are held each August when most other programs are closed. Our full-day of classes are structured so that children/teens/young adults of all abilities are able to participate. Our new 1:1 member to staff ratio gives everyone the chance to receive the individual attention they need to succeed while also ensuring that all safety and social distancing guidelines are followed. Members will participate in a combination of in-person and group virtual classes that include but are not limited to music, art, exercise, yoga, dance, and cooking. Snacks will be provided and special diets will be honored - members need to provide lunch.

At SNACK* people of all abilities are welcome including those with no diagnosis. ALL SNACK* activities are open to the general public.  

Pricing:

$75 per hour/class

*20% SEIT Discount applied per day if attend accompanied by own staff

*Please note: SNACK* is not an OPWDD provider agency at this time.

Job Readiness

During class, members learn job skills through sampling a variety of job roles, including running an e-commerce website. Office tasks are also taught such as taking inventory, filling orders, packing, shipping, mailing letters, attending business meetings off site, as well as the more traditional shredding, filing etc. The job coach mirrors skill sets from jobs in an attempt to find an appropriate volunteer or supported employment opportunity. Because of partnerships SNACK* has developed, some of these opportunities include volunteer jobs at St. Bartholomew’s Church’s Food Pantry and instructional supported employment at Columbia University.

Exercise

Taught by a personal trainer, the exercise class focuses on each individual’s physical strength in order to set and achieve individual goals. The goal of this class is to stress the importance of daily exercise to achieve overall good health and wellness.

Yoga

​This class teaches participants relaxation techniques. It's a low sensory environment with a small amount of noise. Each participant is able to go at their own pace to work on different positions and breathing techniques that help with self regulation.

Cooking

This class is designed to increase and maintain everyday living skills. Nutrition, proper use of utensils, recipe following, table manners, hygiene, and the opportunity to try new things will occur. Special diets will be honored.

Art

Emphasizes collaborative theme-based projects, focuses participants on appropriate use of different media, hones fine motor skills, allowing children to take pride in the finished project.

Old favorites, as well as songs written just for SNACK*, focuses participants on playing instruments, group singing, following directions, enhancing gross motor skills through movement and increasing interpersonal skills
