At SNACK*, we grow as our kids do, continuing to provide Fun, Friends, and Hope for all ages. All classes are designed to supplement an individual’s weekly schedule.

SNACK 21+ classes are structured so that individuals of all abilities are able to participate. Each class is led by an instructor trained in that particular discipline.​ Members will participate in a combination of classes that include but are not limited to music, art, exercise, yoga, dance, and cooking.

SNACK is a program that proudly accepts participants of all abilities. We believe that everyone has the potential to learn and grow, and we are committed to providing a supportive environment for all of our participants. Technology & Digital Creativity

This class teaches the subject of technology through formal instruction on fundamental technological functions and digital media, such as keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, printing, and basic graphic design. The skills-based curriculum emphasizes a hands-on approach so that participants will have opportunities to practice the particular skill that is the focus of each class and build toward opportunities to combine creativity with technology. With guidance from a skilled instructor, participants will engage in creative projects that can be shared with friends, family, or the community. A highlight of the class is the opportunity to bring ideas to life through our community print shop. Participants will explore how to digitize their own artwork and create printed projects, such as cards, posters, and other custom pieces. This unique blend of technology and creativity encourages self-expression while also building participants’ confidence with real-world digital tools.

Exercise

This class teaches the subject of exercise through formal instruction on a range of techniques, such as strength training, aerobic conditioning, and fitness routines that build endurance, flexibility, and coordination. The skills-based curriculum first focuses on core skills while gradually building toward more advanced skills, such as safe weightlifting and circuit training. With guidance from a skilled instructor, participants will receive instruction that emphasizes proper technique and safe progression, allowing participants to practice the particular skills that are the focus of each class. Modifications are readily available, allowing participants to customize the class as desired. Each class supports overall wellness goals, such as increasing stamina, improving posture, and building healthy lifelong exercise habits.

Visual Arts

This class teaches the subject of visual arts through formal instruction on a range of fundamental techniques, such as painting, drawing, collage, and mixed media. The skills-based curriculum first focuses on core skills while gradually building toward more advanced skills, such as creating abstract art, using watercolor, and understanding color theory. With guidance from a skilled instructor, participants will practice targeted techniques, apply them in guided individual and collaborative projects, and produce finished pieces using the particular artistic approach that is the focus of each class.

Yoga

This class teaches the subject of yoga through formal instruction on a range of fundamental techniques, such as postures, movement sequences, breathing, and relaxation practices that promote strength, flexibility, balance, and mindfulness. The skills-based curriculum first focuses on core skills while gradually building toward more advanced skills, such as guided practice in sun salutations and other yoga sequences, standing and seated poses, twists, and gentle backbends. With guidance from a skilled instructor, participants will practice the particular skills that are the focus of each class, which can be applied to support independent fitness routines and healthy lifestyle habits. Modifications are readily available, allowing participants to customize the class as desired. Each class concludes with a short relaxation period that encourages self-regulation and reflection.

Cooking

This class teaches the subject of cooking through formal instruction on a range of essential kitchen techniques, such as measuring, mixing, cutting, and safe food handling. The skills-based curriculum first focuses on core skills while gradually building toward more advanced skills, starting with proper use of kitchen tools like whisks, safety knives, blenders, and mixers and progressing toward food preparation and cooking approaches for different types of cuisines. With guidance from a skilled instructor, participants will practice targeted techniques, apply them in guided cooking and baking projects, and produce finished dishes by following the step-by-step recipe that is the focus of each class. Modifications and accommodations are available to meet food allergies, dietary needs, or restrictions. Recipes are also nut-free.

Musical Foundations

This class teaches the subject of music through formal instruction on music theory and fundamental techniques, such as rhythm, melody, and movement through drumming, singing, and ensemble playing. The skills-based curriculum first focuses on core skills while gradually building toward more advanced skills, such as keeping a steady beat, matching pitch, improvising, and performing both individually and in a group. With guidance from a skilled instructor, participants will practice the particular skill that is the focus of each class and gain experience with musical notation, song structure, and ensemble cooperation while following the direction of a group leader.

Dance

This class teaches the subject of dance through formal instruction on a range of techniques, such as ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and creative movement. The skills-based curriculum first focuses on core skills while gradually building toward more advanced skills, starting with coordination, rhythm, and flexibility, and progressing toward developing choreography and using improvisation as a means of self-expression. With guidance from a skilled instructor, participants will focus on the fundamental steps for the dance style that is the focus of each class, sequencing, and choreography in an engaging and supportive environment. Modifications are readily available, allowing participants to customize the class as desired.
